SimCity 5 Now Fixed and Playable Offline Thanks To AzzerUK!

SimCity 5 Now Fixed and Playable Offline Thanks To AzzerUK! It is no secret that SimCity is making quite a name for itself in the market. The game has suffered in reviews and fan loyalty and many people thought they had been coaxed into buying a new Diablo 3. An individual saw the plight plaguing their fellow gamer and of course took matter into their own hands and crafted a way so that a majority of the games issues are fixed as well as adding an option that allows the game to be playable OFFLINE and still save your city and changes to the server! SOMEONE GIVE THIS FELLOW A MEDAL!

UPDATE: A Work in Progress guide is Here, try out the offline experience for yourself and let us know if it works for you!

SimCity 5 Now Fixed and Playable Offline Thanks To AzzerUK! Find this generous person and give them a medal. Seriously.

SimCity 5 has been a roller coaster ride of many emotions, the most dominant emotions are of rage and disappointment. A YouTube user decided to show off his talents by demonstrating how he not only fixed a few issues still unaddressed by the developers but also added the bonus capability of being able to play the game in offline mode! This is a true answer to the players prayers and something truly amazing of this individual to do, I am not one to support piracy but in cases like this where the company deliberately tries to discourage fans from buying a product then I have to say that I can’t turn the other cheek and let it slip by.

The beauty of AzzerUK is that the changes made stay on the server so that you can safely save your game and you now have the ability to build highways outside of your jurisdiction which until now was an impossible thing to do in the official game.

According to AzzerUK the following was easy for him to do and what is even more surprising is how this single individual was able to do something in a matter of hours what a multinational company failed to do in the same time if not more leeway.

Players will now be able to play offline indefinitely since AzzerUK has found a work around to the disconnection timer and has replaced the default time of 20 minutes to 0 meaning that now a player can play offline indefinitely while still being able to save their world to the server.

His comment on reddit is:

So with a little bit of package editing within SimCity thanks to the modding guide posted to Reddit earlier, and a little playing about in the code, it’s possible to enable debug mode. I linked the activation to the “Help Center” button in the main menu for ease. Most developer debug features are disabled without having an actual developer’s build (they have terraforming tools etc. available in the full developer build!), but a few things do still work – including editing the main highways.

Not only that – but you can edit the highways ANYWHERE – even outside of your city boundary… and even if you quit the game and log back in later, it’s all saved safely on the server.

This shows that highway editing will be easily possible, AND that editing outside of the artificially small city boundaries should be very viable too, potentially (since you can place roads and rails that snap anywhere on-screen).

Edit: And yes I also modded out the disconnect timer (can now play “offline” indefinitely – but no saves/syncs or region related stuff, not yet anyway… but the simulation can carry on with no connection indefinitely). And I modded out the “fluffed population count”, just shows the real population count now. Both very minor/easy tweaks.

The video is accompanied by the following description:

Other things I have modded out with a quick change: Unlimited time to remain disconnected (won’t get booted at 20 minutes, can now be disconnected “forever”). Population count now shows REAL figure, not the “artificially inflated” figure. My large cities have a population of about 15k now, not 100k :P

As you can see, AzzerUK has truly done a splendid job and truly deserves the recognition for it! Do yourself a favor and look into how to implement his additions pronto since they are bound to make your SimCity 5 experience ten fold more enjoyable.

It is surprising to see that many at EA had assured us that it is not possible for the game to run “offline”, Well the current situation and an anonymous source over at “Rock Paper Shotgun” are quite strong evidence that it was indeed possible but never really an option for the company to do.
